Turtles are one of the most slowest reptiles out of them. There are 327 known species and most of them are endangered. One of the reasons that helps them stay alive is their very protective shell. This very shell is actually their spine that is acting like a shield for the turtle. As you know, turtles can be slow, so they have to have some sort of defense besides swimming away. So now they have a defense that works great. When turtles are in danger they will try to get under their predator so that when it strikes it will hit its shell. Turtles live all around the world because they can live in different water temperatures. This picture shows the different place that you can find sea turtles.
Sea Turtles
There are different kinds of sea turtles, there are 7 species. They are one of the worlds most ancient creatures, and that they were alive back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Almost all of the sea turtles are endangered. The reason that sea turtles have such a hard time surviving is because of their trait that makes them unable to be able to tuck into their shell. This makes sharks and other predators to the sea turtle easily be able to get to a sea turtles head flippers to eat them.
The other reason that sea turtles are endangered is because of us. You use plastic bags for a lot of things, right? That is what you put all of your sandwiches in, and all of your snacks. When you are eating and stuff, your bag sometimes will fly away, and what do you care. This can also happen when you do throw away your trash. Sometimes it will end up in a river or ocean. Plastic bags are one of the biggest threats to sea turtles, they mistake it for their food and end up eating it.
Diet
Sea turtles like to eat different things, in this picture you see that the sea turtle is eating sea grass or sea weed and this is probably what you would feed a turtle if you had one. You probably did not know but these turtles just do not eat vegetables, they eat meat too. Their diet is mainly see weed but they also do eat meat like jellyfish, seaweed, crabs, shrimp, sponges, snails, algae, and mollusks.
Reproduction
When sea turtles go to lay their eggs some have to migrate to different beaches over 1,400 miles away. You can know if a sea turtle is a male or female by the temperature of the water that the sea turtle makes its nest in. If the sand that the sea turtle is making their nest is below 85F then it is a male. It is the opposite with a female, 85F above it is a female.

Sea turtles spend most of their life in the water. When they are born they have to crawl to the ocean because they are born on land. If a sea turtle makes it to the ocean they will grow up and will nest on the same ground as they were born. When a sea turtle nests and lays eggs it is usually in a time from March and October and can lay up to around 70-190 eggs at one time.
